I stayed away from posting any sort election-related thoughts yesterday. These were far better than anything I could have come up with:
- Randy Alcorn: It’s Over, But It’s Not Over
- Al Mohler:Â America Has Chosen A President
- Dan Phillips: A Lament for AmericaÂ
-
John Piper: Thankful for (Almost) Any Government
But, as for my own opinion?
I am beyond disappointed – disgusted, really – with our Christian brothers and sisters who defiantly voted against God’s Word…and consequently for those things that God calls an abomination! (Ex. 20:13; Lev. 18:22; 20:2-5; 20:13; Prov. 6:16-19) Â
Jules, over at Everyday Mommy, called them morons, and has been attacked for it. But, quite frankly, I think “moron†was fitting, and extremely kind, when you consider that God calls them cursed! (“Whoever says to the wicked, “You are in the right,†will be cursed by peoples, abhorred by nations.†~Prov. 24:24)
Personally, I think race played way too big of a role in this election.  I am not trying to minimize the historic significance of having an African-American president, but I believe it was a, if not the, deciding factor for too many professing Christians.  I wholeheartedly agree with Martin Luther King, Jr., that a man should be judged not on the color of his skin, but on the content of his character. Strikingly similar to 1 Samuel 16:7, which says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.â€Â I truly don’t care what color Barack Obama is. He could have been purple! The content of his character, his heart, has revealed a man that blatantly disregards and defies the authority of Scripture. And, many, many professing Christians supported him. How sad! Before anyone tries to tell me that we cannot truly know his heart, please look at Matthew 12:34 - “You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.â€Â (Christ called the Pharisees a “brood of vipers!†And people were bothered by “moronâ€? Really? Really?!)Â
Does he need our prayers? Absolutely! Each and everyone of us should be on our knees, begging God for mercy for the next 4 (or, let’s face it, more) years.
If this is the man that we (as Americans, and worse, as Christians) have selected, then we are a nation – sadly, a church – of morons!
May God have mercy on us all!!!
