Hannah Elisabeth, Mommyhood, Traditions & Celebrations

First Day of (Sunday) School

Last Sunday was Hannah’s last day in the nursery.  This week she officially started Sunday School!!

Because she handles change about as well as her mommy ;) , we have been talking about this all week, and trying to prepare her for it.  The child who hated, no exaggeration, the nursery just a year ago, and would sob hysterically at the mere thought, was now in tears at the prospect of having to leave!  (What a difference a year makes!)  So, we talked about the new playground (the “big kids” playground has a sandbox – a definite plus in the eyes of my daughter!), and how most of her nursery friends would be coming with her.  I assured her that they would have songs and Bible stories (another plus!).  Along with the explanation that she was now a big kid, and big kids go to Sunday School, her apprehension seemed to lessen…and she was maybe even the teeniest bit excited.  She likes being a “big kid.”

But, on Sunday morning, while I was getting breakfast ready, she walked into the kitchen and announced, “I don’t want to go to Big Kid School.  I want to stay in the nursery!”  Uh-oh.

But, once she saw her friend, Dan, already in the classroom, she was good to go!  When I picked her up, she was so excited!  She couldn’t wait to show me all of her papers…and tell me about the songs they sang…and how she got sand in her shoes, but how “Teacher” helped her get it out…

I think she liked it…just a little bit! 🙂
