Quotes, Thinking Biblically

A Daily Pursuit of Humility (Mahaney, part 3)

Ways to purposefully pursue humility as part of your daily routine:

  • ~Begin the day by acknowledging dependence on God.  Do not take an “inventory of your feelings.”  How you feel about it does not matter – the fact is that you are dependant upon God.

  • ~Incorporate specific thankfulness to God in your devotional times, and throughout the day.  An ungrateful person is a proud person.

  • ~Begin by practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Scripture reading, and worship.  The absence of practicing spiritual disciplines is not because of a lack of discipline, but because of pride.

  • ~Seize your commute (the “mundane moments” of the day) as time for meditation and memorization of Scripture.

  • ~Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.  When worry or anxiety is present, pride is at the root.

  • ~At the end of the day, transfer all glory to God.  If we do not intentionally transfer glory we are keeping it for ourselves.

  • ~Remember that your ministry is only effective because God keeps His promise that His word will not return void.

  • ~Sleep is a gift.  It is a daily reminder that we are not self-sufficient.  It is a reminder that you are a creature, and not the Creator.
