Hannah Elisabeth, Just for Fun

Dora’s Song

We were in the car, running errands this afternoon, and Hannah kept asking for “Dora’s song.”  Now, I know what you are probably thinking, because I was thinking it too.  Except…we have never watched an episode of “Dora the Explorer,” ever.  So, I was completely lost.  She was at Grandma’s this morning, I thought, but Grandma didn’t say anything about watching “Dora.”  So, I did what any rational, but utterly confused mother would do…I asked her to sing it for me!  The tune did sound slightly familiar, but I just couldn’t quite place it…

“Off of the shadow…(mumbles)
and dora’s, dora’s, dora’s
and we sing gray fedoras…
We’re all done!  We’re all done! We’re all done!”

Finally, after about the third rendition, something about the way she sang “gray fedoras” clicked…Mary Poppins!  Maybe this version will make a bit more sense:

So, cast off the shackles of yesterday!
Shoulder to shoulder into the fray!
Our daughters’ daughters will adore us
And they’ll sign in grateful chorus
“Well done! Well done!
Well done Sister Suffragette!”

She was singing “Sister Suffragette” (the song Mrs. Banks sings at the beginning of the movie)!  Crazy girl!  It seems that I have a budding feminist on my hands here…;)
