I said that we would not do “the princess thing.â€Â I did not want my daughter growing up with a “princess complex,†and developing a “royal attitude.â€
Well, on Saturday, I ate my words. Why?
Because, a little girl named Hannah turned 3-years-old. She has fallen in love with all things Cinderella, so it just seemed an appropriate theme. And, really, it was so much fun!!
Â

Â
We invited 6 of Hannah’s friends to come over, dressed as princesses…Kate, Elyssa, Katlyn, McKenzie, and Jordan (we missed you Lexy!) came dressed as Snow White, a Fairy Princess, Belle (2 of them!), and the Princess, from “The Princess and The Pea. They were adorable!  Hannah, dressed as her favorite, Cinderella, greeted each little girl at the door, saying “Oh! You look so beautiful!â€
The girls colored Princess Pictures, and then played “Fireman†(not exactly in keeping with the dainty little princess theme, but…) until it was time to open presents…
They all got into the act, and “helped†Hannah with ribbons and the wrapping paper, and giving “hints†as to what a particular gift was, or offering suggestions as to how she could, or should, use it. Hannah loved all of her gifts…and, as she plays with each one, says, “Kate gave me this magic wand. That was so kind of her.â€Â Or, “Miss Kenzie gave me this book. She is a good friend!â€
Then, it was time for Birthday Cake…Well, birthday cupcakes, to be exact. We “sparkled†(Hannah’s description of the white, pink, and blue sugar sprinkles) all of the cupcakes. I was at a loss for a creative way to decorate a “Princess Cake.â€Â So I stole (borrowed?) one of Hannah’s Cinderella figurines for the top of the cupcake tree…Appropriate, no? Well, it worked, and I thought it a very creative solution! Don’t worry, I gave her back her toy, sans frosting, once we had enjoyed the cupcakes!
And, then, at the stroke of 3:00, the spell was broken, and everything became as it was before… (I know, it would sound so much better to have said “at the stroke of midnight,†but, this is, after all, a very loose paraphrase, and, as much as I love Hannah’s friends, I was not about to host a slumber party for a bunch of 2-to-5-year-olds!!)  Each princess returned to her respective kingdom… And, of course…They all lived happily ever after! We had a wonderful day! Thanks to everyone for coming, and helping us celebrate Hannah’s birthday!!(You can see more Princess Pictures here.)
