Back to Reality

Funny thing about vacations…as the “normal” schedule changes, and the daily routine becomes more lax, you think you will have more time to do things.  Not exactly.  I had all sorts of grand plans for writing blog posts, finishing (er, starting) several scrapbook pages, reading, etc.…  I did some of each, but not nearly to the extent that I’d hoped.

Even so, it was a wonderful, relaxing break.  Jason and I took turns “sleeping in,” as Hannah has yet to grasp this concept of “vacation”.  It was still fairly early by most standards, but it was sleeping in nonetheless.  Admittedly, I got more turns than he did…  Don’t I have a great husband!? :)

We played with all of Hannah’s new toys for hours on end.  She loves to wear her new apron from Auntie Jo while she cooks in her kitchen (last year’s present).  She is becoming a good little mommy, taking care of her new (still nameless) baby doll (from Granny and Grandpa Whitley).  She loves dressing her – the poor dolly gets an outfit change at least once an hour!  The dollhouse from Grandma and Grandpa (Thompson) is also proving to be a real favorite…And has definite potential for independent play!  Daddy has probably spent more time “playing dolls” these past few days than ever before in his life!  He is definitely the preferred playmate for this game.  Although, she tolerates me, I think she gets a bit bored by Mommy’s more conventional version of “Pretend.”  Daddy, on the other hand, is much more imaginative.  He does cool things like having Rocket fly Cinderella around the room, and land on the roof of the dollhouse in time for a party with Noah and all the animals from the Ark…Yeah, I’m confused too.  Me?  I just play “house” (how boring!).

It’s back to reality today.  Jason is back at work this morning…and we miss him already!  Hannah and I have been busy too…We have folded and put away 2 loads of laundry this morning, with two more in the washer and dryer as I type.  She helped me empty a load of dishes from the dishwasher, and then I re-loaded it with the dishes that were sitting in the sink and on the counter!  They were just about to take over the rest of the kitchen!!  One of the downfalls of our nice, relaxing vacation – I let myself slack off in the housework department!  So, it is definitely nice to be back to a more structured routine.

During our break, I did work on overhauling our daily schedule.  There have been some significant changes in the last few months with Hannah dropping her nap, and transitioning to “quiet time,” that I had not yet put down on paper.  I also spent some time reevaluating some of the items, and trying to decide what should stay, what should go, and what should be added…but more on that later.  I have a basic framework in place, and now that vacation is over, we’re jumping in.  For now, we will see how it works, and tweak it where necessary as we go along.

Well, the dryer is buzzing…Like I said, back to reality. :)
