What a week! I did not intend to take a break from the ol’ blog, but sometimes life just happens…
The craziness started on Sunday afternoon when Hannah woke up from her nap with a fever of 104. Yes, 104! She spent the rest of the evening being pathetic – clingy, sleepy, and whiney. A bath and a good dose of Tylenol later, she went to bed at 6:30 (unheard of!). Her fever was still hovering within the vicinity of 103-104, so I called her pediatrician…
Monday the sicky woke up with a much lower fever, though still in the triple digit range. Because the fever came on so suddenly, and was so high, her doctor had me bring her in that afternoon. Of course, by the time we arrived at his office (3 doses of Tylenol, a bath, and a nap later…) her fever had dropped considerably as her energy level jumped. He checked her out, and pronounced her “fine.†(Which, I am convinced is code for “crazy, over-protective, paranoid mama!â€)
Hannah’s fever finally broke (early!) Tuesday morning, as she woke up sweating, and sobbing inconsolably about her “lost†duckie. (The duck happened to be sitting about arm’s length away…) Once we got her calmed down, I checked her temperature, and it was back to normal. Since I needed to play “catch up†on Monday’s chores, as well as tackling my regular Tuesday routine (laundry day!), we stuck around the house on Tuesday too.
Having lost a few precious days at the beginning of the week, Wednesday was the start of crazy preparation for a Sunday School class meeting that we hosted at our house on Friday. Hannah and I cleaned, ran errands, and collected extra chairs, and a large coffee pot. At this point, Hannah also decided that she had apparently done enough sleeping for the week, and was not about to go down for a nap without a fight. I decided it wasn’t worth the fight, so she spent some time doing (not-so) “quiet play†in her room.Â
Thursday and Friday are a blur, and somehow on Friday night, the chairs were set up, the coffee was made, and the house was clean (or else, our friends were kind enough not to comment on the dust bunnies and tiny fingerprints!)…and we managed to cram 28 people into our living room! It was a profitable time, as we discussed several issues, and set some goals for future ministry.
Friday was also a milestone for Hannah, as she had her first sleepover! Since we expected the meeting to run late, and, with that many people, loud, Hannah got to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa’s house! She had a great time – and I don’t think she missed mommy and daddy at all! And, she definitely got more rest than she would have gotten at home…although, I think Grandma was a little sleep deprived!
We spent Saturday cleaning up, recovering, watching the Kings win their first hockey game of the season (in London?!) – yay!, and cooking…because on Saturday evening, my family came over to help celebrate my birthday – which was yesterday (Sunday).Â
Whew! And, here we are…Looking at the start of another busy week… All is grace.Â
