Summer Challenge

Summer Challenge: Update

I am (almost) a month into my summer goal of reading through the Bible in 90 days (currently in 1 Kings), and I thought it was time for an update.  With the exception of a nasty migraine which rendered me useless for an entire day (I had to use one of my 2 allotted “grace days!”) – it has been an easy plan to keep up with.

My friend Sheri said that this was like sprinting a marathon at first, and I have to agree with her observation!  The pace is much faster than any of the reading plans I have done in the past (AWANA, college, one-year Bible, etc.).  But, once you get used to it, and get over the idea that you must remember every single detail, it becomes a comfortable pace.  And, I love getting a better grasp on the “flow,” both of individual books, since they only about 2-3 days (a little more for some of the longer books!) to complete, as well as how they connect as a whole.  There is alot of information coming at you extremely quickly, and while it can be overwhelming, it has also made it much easier to remember names, dates, and events, and ”connect-the-dots” as I go along.

I do miss some aspects of a more in-depth study, but I already have a list – a few of them, actually! – of things (passages, topics, characters) that I want to come back to, and study more carefully in the future.  But, recently I have been thinking that I would like to do another 90-day cycle immediately following this one.  Theoretically, you could read through the Bible 4 times a year using this plan!!  I don’t know if I will go that far (this time), but I do think a second read-through would help to clarify the timeline of people and events, and make the connections (especially between Old and New Testaments!) even stronger.
