Every Wednesday morning, some of the moms from our Sunday school class meet at a local park.  The kids play, and we have fun watching them, and talking…Â
Hannah and I have missed “park days†this last year, since we were in the church nursery every Wednesday. We did take the nursery kids outside (weather permitting), but a small, enclosed play yard with plastic (Little Tyke/Fisher Price) equipment just isn’t the same as a park with lots of grass, sand, and Hannah’s favorite…â€fwingsâ€Â (translation: swings).
Of course, no Hannah-post would be complete without a few “Hannah-isms†for your enjoyment. She seems to have lots up her little sleeve these days…I love how it gives me a glimpse into how her little mind is working, processing, and soaking in everything around her. It is so wonderful to see her turning into a compassionate, loving, little person, who enjoys her friends, family, and life in general…
Today, when I opened the front door to leave, Hannah ran out, looked around, and said “Wow! It’s so nice!â€Â (I’m pretty sure she was talking about the weather – which was nice. Perfect park weather!)
At the park…Â
When we got to the park, Hannah looked around and said, “Oh, I remember. Daddy play bakis-ball (basket-ball) over there.â€Â (The last time we were at this particular park was a few weeks ago with a few other families. The dads played a little basketball…with the kids watching, and running onto the court.)Â
While we were there, Hannah’s friend Lexy fell and scraped up her hands and knees. Hannah heard her crying, and asked what happened. I told her, and she said, “Poor Lessick (that is how she says Lexy)! Let’s get her a kitty bad-nam (Hello Kitty band-aid) in the car. It really helps!â€Â (I keep a first-aid kit, with band-aids in the car. Hannah has had her fair share of scraped elbows and skinned knees recently, so she has lots of faith in the healing power of band-aids!)
Hannah’s favorite thing to do at the park is play on the swings. She got a rather long turn, since she still uses one of the two “baby swings†and the other was open most of the time. But, after about 20 minutes of “fwinging†all of the other swings were occupied, and there was a little girl waiting for a turn. So, I told Hannah she could have 10 more pushes, and then she would need to get down, and do something else. So, she started counting, “1-2-3-4-5-6-8-9-10…â€Â (Yes, in case you mised it, she skipped 7.) As the swing slowed down, she kept going… “11-12-13-eleven-teen-12-13-eleven-teenâ€Â (Although she can get all the way to 20, she occasionally gets stuck, and doesn’t know where to go after “eleven-teen.â€) In case you’re wondering, she got off the swing without complaining, and even told the little girl who was waiting, “It’s your turn now.â€
On the way home…Â
In the car on the way home, we stopped next to a huge truck at a stop-light. When the light turned green, we turned right as the truck turned left…I hear from the back seat “Phew! That was close!â€
At home… This afternoon, after Hannah’s nap, Grandma stopped by for a little visit. When she had to leave, Hannah scrunched up her face and said, “Oh, Grandma, I miss you so much.â€Â (I don’t doubt that she misses her Grandma…but what a little drama queen!!) While I was making dinner, Hannah was sitting at her little table coloring and singing. I hear “Fing la-la-lu-la, fing la-la-lu-la…â€Â When I asked her what she was doing, she said “I finging (singing).â€Â What are you singing? “I finging la-la-lu. To the Lord.â€Â (Translation for those of you who don’t speak 2-year-old…“I singing alleluia to the Lord.â€)
