Hannah Elisabeth, Mommyhood

Life with Hannah

I love my daughter!  She has such a unique perspective on life right now, and loves to tell me about the things she is learning and discovering!  This is just such a fun age!!  (Yes, I know that she has only been 2 for a little over a month, but I am loving it!!)

A glimpse into life with 2-year-old Hannah:
~ The Elmo Potty!  She’s not fully potty-trained yet, but she typically keeps her pull-ups dry all day (sometimes even during naps!), we are just working on keeping them “clean.”  But I think we are definitely heading in the right direction!!

~ Mommy’s little helper.  Hannah loves to help me with stuff around the house and really is a great little helper!  She now puts her sippy cups and bowls on the kitchen counter when she is done with them.  Yay!  No more finding half-empty cups of spoiled milk or old juice all over the house.  She also puts her toys away when she is finished playing with them, and loves to clean – dust, “fweep” and mop the floor.

~ “Reading” books…Right now she mainly just looks at the pictures, but she has heard most of the stories so many times that she can practically recite them from memory!  She usually takes 4-6 books to bed with her at nap/rest-time…and has very specific favorites.  Currently they include: “The Ibex Book” (a book about animal life in the desert, that happens to have a picture of an Ibex – very popular in our house!), “The Saggy Baggy Elephant,” “The Poky Little Puppy,” and the “Fire Engine Book.”

~ Hannah loves music!  She easily remembers the words to songs, and loves to sing. “Bullfrogs and Butterflies” seems to be her current favorite, and all I am “allowed” to play in the car!  But, “Something About that Name” comes in a very close second.  It makes me laugh to hear my 2-year-old singing “kings and kingdoms will all pass away, but there’s something about that name!”  After I put her to bed the other night, I was treated to a concert of sorts, as she belted out several songs from “Bullfrogs and Butterflies” CD – at the top of her little lungs!  But, I love hearing lyrics like “I like knowing God the best!” and “Jesus is my friend!” coming from my little girl.  I am now on the look-out for some CD’s with Bible verses set to music…She has already memorized a few shorter (“Cubbies”) verses, but I definitely think having them set to music would help that number, and maybe even the length, grow!

I haven’t posted any “Hannah-isms” in a while (I know, I haven’t posted anything in a while!!), so here are a few great ones from the last few days:

  •
    • “Mommy, I have bubbles in my mouth!”  (She was referring to her spit!)
    • “Oh! I have a boogie in my nose!  I got it!”  (And after a few seconds pause…) “Here mommy, yucky.  I not want it.”  (Um, thanks?)
    • “Mommy, I want a pacifier.”  (This from the child who has used a pacifier only on very rare occasions – I have no idea where she got this idea!) “Well, we don’t have any pacifiers, and you don’t need one anyway.”  “Yes, go to the store and get them…in the shopping cart!”  (She was very proud of herself for having solved this dilemma for me!)
    • “I love you too Mommy, so much!”  (This came out of nowhere, and was followed by a big hug…can’t beat that!!)
    • “Come on guys, let’s pray!”  She then goes on to pray:
    • “Dear Jesus, thank you Mommy, Daddy, Auntie Go (that’s how she says “Jo”), Sully (my parent’s cat! I have no idea how he made the list!), teddy bear, and teddy bear, and milk, and mommy water, daddy water, grilled cheese sandwich, and ummmmmmmm, puzzles, and….cars, and ummmmmmmm….Amen.”  (Much of the prayer is a result of looking around the room or the table.  The “amen” usually comes after some prompting from mommy or daddy.  But, I love that she is so thankful for everything – and wants to thank Jesus!  A good lesson for me…sometimes I forget to be thankful for the “little things” – and she is always good at reminding me that I have lots to be thankful for!!)
