Well, here we go again! February isn’t even over yet, and this is the third illness in our family since the start of the year!! (Hannah’s second!) I guess it is time for me to admit that Hannah is no longer the healthy, seemingly-immune-to-everything kid that I used to brag about…
About a week ago, she came down with another cold. Seems she barely gets over one illness, and, before I know it, we are already on to the next! Now, I really don’t want to be one of those moms who automatically jumps to the assumption that just because her child is sick, she must have picked it up in the nursery, but… I guess she could have picked it up from a shopping cart, but, I have my doubts about that theory. She is no longer at an age where she finds it necessary to put her mouth on everything in sight, and I am usually very careful about wiping the cart down with an antibacterial wipe (I carry them in my purse in case the store doesn’t have any!), and then, as an extra measure of protection (paranoia?), we both use Purell when we get back to the car. So, I think it was the nursery. She was only back at church for 2 weeks, and we were homeschooling it again last Sunday. And, at this point, it looks like that will be the case this weekend as well!
She came down with this last Thursday. She still has an amazing amount of energy…so far, I am still feeling pretty healthy, and I am exhausted! And, just as I thought we were nearing the end, she developed a nasty sounding cough, that somewhat resembles Donald Duck’s voice. (I have spent quite a while on WebMD looking up various respiratory diseases - croup, bronchitis, RSV, pneumonia, and all sorts of other yucky stuff.) It just sounds painful…especially in the middle of the night. But, I am beginning to think that it bothers me more than it does her. For the most part, she is still able to sleep. I am the one waking her up with a drink of water, more medicine, or a middle-of-the-night session with the nasal aspirator. (All of which she tolerates amazingly well! Even thanking me for “getting yucky boogies out.â€) Her doctor seems to think that this is the tail end of her cold, and reassured me that sometimes it just sounds like things are getting worse, but is usually nothing to worry about. He does want us to keep an eye on her until the cough is completely gone though. So, I guess we’re just waiting, and praying that doesn’t morph into something worse!
