Fast-Forward to Christmas

The Christmas season, for me, starts as soon as Thanksgiving is over.  I would begin listening to Christmas music mid-September (probably earlier!) if it was allowed!  I still think Jason would prefer that I wait until December for the Christmas music, but he kindly lifts the ban after Thanksgiving.  Of course, I also thought this would be the perfect time to decorate for Christmas!

With Thanksgiving behind us by only a few hours, I dug out my Christmas CD’s bright and early Friday morning.  And, on Saturday, I convinced Jason to haul out box after box of Christmas decorations from the garage.  I thought that we (meaning he) should put up the Christmas lights while it was still early in the day…it was sunny and fairly warm, so maybe he wasn’t quite in the mood for Christmas yet.  Instead, he said that the lawn desperately needed to be mowed.  I couldn’t really argue with him on that one.  So, while he worked on mowing the lawn, trimming the bushes, and pulling weeds (isn’t he the best?!), Hannah helped me give our bedroom a little makeover (thanks to my in-laws!).  I liked the old color scheme just fine, but after 5 years, I was ready for a little change!  Although this will last beyond the holidays, the red and white does seem just a little more festive, don’t you think?

After Hannah went down for her nap, I gave the living room a much-needed dusting, and began unwrapping decorations (snowmen, stockings, Christmas ornaments, lights for the tree and the house, and our Nativity Scene).   Being that this is our second Christmas in a row at the same address (yay!), it didn’t take too long to get things into their proper places.  Although, I am still debating the exact location of the tree…which will probably make an appearance sometime next weekend.

The lights turned into something of a family affair…even though Jason did most (all) of the work.  He started to work on the lights outside while I was working on the living room decorations.  Because the nails were already in place from last year, we thought that this would also be a fairly quick process….  Unfortunately, we forgot exactly where we plugged the lights in last year, so we had to start again with a different extension cord.

Jason was still outside working on the lights when Hannah woke up, so I bundled her up and took her outside to “help.”  She had a great time watching Daddy climb the ladder, holding the lights for him, and just being outside…
