John MacArthur rarely makes me laugh. He almost always makes me think, but he rarely makes me laugh. He has managed to do both, so far, in his book, Twelve Extraordinary Women. So, I just had to share what has to be the funniest quote in this book (or, at least in the first chapter!):
“Adam was refined dirt.â€
Context? This is a chapter on Eve, and he is making a point about the unique process of Eve’s creation. Where Adam was made out of dust, Eve was carefully built, by God’s own hand, from living flesh and bone (Adam’s). MacArthur describes her as “a glorious refinement of humanity itself.â€(p. 1) Adam, on the other hand, is described as “refined dirt.â€(Certainly after reading that, could accuse Dr. MacArthur of being a chauvinist, woman-hater, sexist, and many other things that he may have been labeled in the past! He has a very high regard for women, and thier God-ordained roles!!)
